Sewing Shop

This weekend I popped back to Canterbury and we wandered into The Sewing Shop so that Tash could buy one needle! It's been completely redone and looks more like a boutique than a dated haberdashers. There was such a great range of fabrics, like these Liberty ones, and it makes me want to get sewing something to wear this summer!

Patch Work

My big Christmas present this year was a duvet cover me Ma made me. It's patchwork from a selection of Cath Kidston fabrics like these above. I didn't ask for anything, so when Mum said she was making something I was very intrigued. What a fab surprise!

Flower Hammer

  

Last night on The Edible Garden, they did some Japanese leaf printing called hapa-zome. All you do is pick some leaves or petals, place them between two layers of natural fabric and bang them with a hammer. The juice and colour will dye the fabric, all you have to do is iron it to set. So today whilst I was out on dog walk, I picked a variety of leaves and petals and had a go myself when I got home! Also my seeds arrived so this weekend I will get planting!

Lines and Jars

These fabrics are all by repeat, whose etsy shop is here. I came across their fabric designs a while back and I love how they're so quirky - jam jars, electricity pylons! I wrote to them on etsy finding out whether the fabrics are suitable for dressmaking, and now that I've seen the laundry design, I really want to make an order!

Deck Chair

Here is a snap of my prototype deckchair! It was a little study for me to get back into the work shop and see how the components fit together. The final chair will have a more rugged look using all the wood I have collected up and the seat will be a patchwork affair. I had a little accident and in the process of washing the fabric I acquired, I put a dark one in the machine, the brightly coloured material has come out a bit dull... lucky it wasn't any of my favourite clothes!

Horizontal stripes

Yesterday my parents popped down to Canterbury to visit and we went out for lunch in Whitstable. It's such a great place that's kept an artisan charm to it, rather than other seaside towns which seem to have fallen by the wayside and are in need of much regeneration. Through Freecycle I acquired this material from an artist living on the outskirts of the town which I'm going to use for my dissertation project! I'm excited to see how the chair's going to turn out!

Squeegee

Today me mam and I went down to Brighton! We went specifically to visit Lawrence Art Supplies which is especially good for printmaking. I've been wanting to try my hand at screenprinting for ages, so I have now got the bits n pieces I need!
I can't wait to get started, especially starting off some designs for my own fabric!

Stars and stripes

Yesterday I went and bought this collection of fabrics to make bunting, little keyrings, perhaps iPod cases for my thrift stall! We shall see how they turn out, the making process has begun...
