Everyone cycles in Strasbourg. I loved it, jumping on the town bike and heading into the centre.

Ding Ding
...is the sound my bicycle will make as a peddle around town. This morning I went for a cycle with Dad and Brother Dowle and the latter definitely was like my personal trainer. When I was so ready to give up, he said NO! Once you get up to the Downs there are some great views of London: Wembley, Canary Wharf and the Shard. So I'm thinking of what bike to get when I go to uni - something town bike-like but also practical for these family outings. Any ideas? I seem to be drawn to black bikes with wire baskets and bells - ding ding!

No Packaging
At the weekend I watched some documentaries about the Amish and their simple way of living. I thought of all the positives: travelling by horse and buggy; growing their own fruit and veg; rearing their own animals; and, most importantly, the absence of waste. In the paper this evening I spotted Unpackaged, a shop in north east London. You can buy allsorts of groceries by bringing your own packaging, encouraging an end to waste. It's such a good idea and I hope that more shops will start going this way. Check out this video about the shop!
