Twelve Things: July's Party

We were yet to make the most of our little flat in Brixton, so my birthday was a great excuse to throw a party. It's the ground floor of a Victoria terrace and we are lucky to have the run of the garden so a garden party was in order... but we do live in England after all. Good weather isn't guaranteed. True to form, rain was forecast and so the garden had to come inside.

To get inspired I started a board on Pinterest, and I loved the balloon installations and festoon lighting. Over the weeks before I collected jam jars to create hanging lanterns for outside, but the weather meant we kept them inside and instead we sipped prosecco out of them - how trendy! I'm still going to give the lantern project a go, but in the meantime they're fantastic as little vases.

Somehow a pink and yellow theme spontaneously emerged and it was seen in the cups and plates, flowers and balloons. I was up early on the day to get baking: lemon drizzle cake, rose and strawberry Victoria sponge, chocolate and raspberry and tea-infused cupcakes. Dan was in charge of the savoury goods: handmade pigs in blankets, sausage rolls and pizza fingers.

I had a great night and the summer is only half way through, so I hope next time we can get out in the garden and have a dinner party out there!

Yellow

My Instagram seems to be inadvertently colour coordinating; February was red, March so far is yellow. This weekend I popped home for Mother's Day but also celebrated Ben and Dave's birthdays. Our parting gift was a party bag, and better than the party bags of our younger days! You guys are too creative! Also I was elated to discover Yorkie have reintroduced their honeycomb variety, a favourite from my school days. I was drawn to it's golden wrapper on Friday evening and without a thought I was at the till making a purchase. It tasted just as good as I remembered!

Ghoulish Grub

When it comes to baked good, or any food for that matter, my friends step up! On Wednesday we had a Hallowe'en party and all dressed up as characters from Cluedo - I was Reverend Green. There was so much food, from creep cupcakes, to scary sausage fingers, pumpkin pie, edible eyeballs to name just a slither of the spread.

The Big Day

What an incredibly wedding it was! I watched the arrivals and the service with friends and family and to this moment can't believe how beautiful the day was, especially the bride! What a dress! We had a barbeque in the afternoon and across the country (and the world) so many people were celebrating in different ways. I love the official wedding portrait and here is the British Monarchy Flickr page. So now one more day off, and then back to normality...

W & K

I'm not ashamed to say it - I am incredibly excited about the Royal Wedding! The flags along Regent Street make me feel all patriotic and with the constant Bank Holidays, "the Wedding" are the words on everyone's lips. I really think this illustration by Mr Ned captures the Union Jack laden spirit!
