Saturday Cycling

I just spotted this via the Kinfolk facebook page, and it got me dreaming. Now that I am back in the south, this could be me and Dan on a Saturday morning. I need a bike first though! This lady's wheels are cute!

It's almost been a month since I last blogged. There was exhibition, then moving home, a fab long weekend in Strasbourg and two fantastic weeks in Cyprus. More of these later. I've also been umming and aahing as to whether to continue with this blog. I've been writing and musing here for four years now. Is it time for a new project? Or just a bit of a rejig? Let's see...!

London 2012

One week has passed since that magnificent opening ceremony at the Olympic stadium in Stratford - what a display of British eccentricity! Since then we have been attached to our TV screens, Olympic apps and even been out to watch. Last Saturday we went out to Kingston to watch the men's road race pass by and today we went along to BT London Live at Hyde Park and watched the track cycling, and at both the atmosphere was fantastic. Team GB brought in two golds and we also saw the women's team pursuit (with Jo Rowsell, who was in my class at school) smash the world record. Roll on the final tomorrow - GO TEAM GB!

East End

I'm back at work for a few weeks to earn some monies over the summer holidays. The project I'm working on is in Hackey next to Hackney City Farm and the other day I went down to take some snaps when there was a consultation on. The hospital has been empty for 20 years odd, although Goldsmith's Row alongside it has become a constant route for cyclists and others have made their mark in a different way.

C'est Chic

 Everyone cycles in Strasbourg. I loved it, jumping on the town bike and heading into the centre.

Dad did the London to Brighton cycle ride again this year, so we popped down to Brighton to see him cross the finish line!

Bike or Pony

On the way to Battersea Park the aim of cycling (rather than bus or tube) was completed... and what a hair raising experience it was! With helmet and hi-vis donned, perched on a Boris bike we negotiated the rush hour traffic from Camden to Sloane Square. Now that I have done that and come out alive, I can do anything!

Emma's looking to buy a town bike and recently we popped into Bobbin Bikes, such a sweet bike boutique. You can buy really nice bike accessories, as well as bikes themselves. On the bus toward Shoreditch last night I spotted revellers in Look Mum No Hands! a cafe/bar/bike workshop.

After the epic London adventure, I think I'm gonna cycle everywhere... perhaps!

Two Wheels

This evening we were going to ride to Victoria on a Boris Bike (Emma successfully persuaded me to have a go!) But when we reached the docking station, it wasn't working, or there were no bikes, or it released one bike and then broke down! It was such a shame, but I'll even more keen to have a go soon, especially when it gets light in the evenings. Here is what I wrote about cycling in London before...

Cobble Stones

Blog wandering and came across downtown from behind, a project where creatives are snapped cycling away into the distance. Like I find with the Sartorlialist, it's quite often the surroundings more than the people that make the picture. I love how West Village, NYC could quite easily be a cobbled mews in London town... and of course I'd really like to live there!

On Yer Bike!

I'm planning my tube routes in London for this afternoon and have just spotted these quirky videos promoting cycling round town on the TfL website. I like this Dermot one particularly. If I lived in the city I'd like to think I'd cycle, though it does seem just so busy. If I had me a town bike with a basket, I'm sure I'd give it a go! In fact there's just the cycle shop along the road from where I work...
