Make Stuff

Yesterday I did some printing. I've really enjoyed this semester because, even though we're still looking at buildings, it's less about architecture as such and more about typology. I've made models, created collage, sketched, scribbled. It's all been about research through design, trial and error and experimenting with representation. The printing has got me into a 'making' frame of mind and these crochet pieces have got me wanted to get my hooks and needles out!

Summer Art

Today Ma and I went to the Royal Academy Summer exhibition, an annual outing to see such a variety of painting, prints, sculpture, photography and architecture. It's so interesting to see such a plethora from both amateurs and professionals. The question 'is that art?' pops up on many occasions, as well as 'how can that be worth £125,000?!', but we always love to have a wander around.

I had some particular favourites. The architecture room was great - and seeing as it's my chosen profession made me excited to see the sort of work that can be produced - and occupied a bigger space than previous years. Individually I liked:

First Attempt

So I have just had my first go at screenprinting! I only did these two little samples using my own handcut stencil but I think I need to practise a bit more before I go into any sort of production! Practice makes perfect...

Squeegee

Today me mam and I went down to Brighton! We went specifically to visit Lawrence Art Supplies which is especially good for printmaking. I've been wanting to try my hand at screenprinting for ages, so I have now got the bits n pieces I need!
I can't wait to get started, especially starting off some designs for my own fabric!

Mein Geburtstag

I turned twenty on Wednesday!! I received a plethora of books...

and I was most excited to received Printing by Hand by Lena Corwin, I can't wait to get started! I've already made a 'thanks' stamp for thank-you notes!

During the day we went to the flea market again at Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium (with all the tennis going on down the road) and Mother Dowle, my friend Rachel and I got our mits on some bargains!

All in all I had a lovely day and I'm looking forward even more to my bbq party on Sunday!
