Great Bake
Via Shoreditch Sisters, who were in Stella today, I found out that the BBC are recruiting for amateur bakers (me!) a new programme called 'The Great British Bake Off'! Sounds like such fun! Above is a selection of the cakes I baked for my birthday party in the summer and here, here, here and here are some of my other previous creations... must get practising!

Insatiable
Apart from going abroad on holiday, this has been my longest non-blogging stint. I'm very ashamed!! Uni has well and truly started and our architecture school has thrown us straight into the deep end: designing a studio flat in a week; reading the deepest theories on modernism... my poor little brain is working very hard!On another note my new camera has arrived! A brand new Sony a230, it's just fab! This afternoon I got baking again and so have put my new beauty to use, plus I now have all my knitty bit with me! There's a new craft society starting up here so I definitely want to get involved there.
So even this afternoon with a little spare time, I most definitely have this insatiable need to be making and doing something... I'll never change!

A to the B-town
This weekend I went to stay in Brighton with my friend Lauren! On Saturday we went into town and wandering into this art exhibition called The Elephant Bed by an American artist John Grade based on a sea micro-organism called the coccolithophore!!?

I really like the different levels of the hung sculptures and the way you can even climb under and into one!
Also seen in Brighton: these delicious looking cupcakes from the Angel Food Bakery in the Lanes,
the Regency pavilion, an Asian twist in a British seaside town,
and a band called Rubylux - really good! Give 'em a listen!

Leftovers
For my bbq I baked a range of different cakes, orange and poppyseed, lemon and poppyseed, chocolate and chai spice and banana cake with passionfruit icing - the latter went down very well!! My friend Jess also baked some delicious cupcakes - cappuccino and cherry ones too!
I didn't get a good snap of them before they were devoured, but here's one midway through!

Seriously give the passionfruit icing a go; a couple of teaspoons of passionfruit, butter and icing sugar! There isn't really any need to even ice a cake with it!

Lemon Drizzle
On a scorching day, I decided to get baking and these are my lemon drizzle fairy cakes!

It's the same recipe as these cakes, but I added lemon juice to the mixture. The drizzle is just runny icing made with icing sugar, water and lemon juice.

Palace Bakery
So through this summer term of procrastination (something very unusual in the otherwise hectic life of an architecture student) I have been coming up with other ways to keep busy, other than going out and spending money that I don't have! First, I joined the swimming centre and as part of my new fitness regime I went 5 times... the last time was about three weeks ago though...
More popular, with both myself and my housemates/guinea pigs, have been my baked creations...

I started off with some simple sponge fairy cakes; I had forgotten how easy they are to make. Basically cream together 110g marg with 110g sugar, add and mix in 2 large eggs and lastly fold in 110g self raising flour. Put the mixture into some cases and pop em in the oven for about 20mins!

I like to make mine look pretty so used butter icing which is just 1 part marg to 2 parts icing sugar mixed together with a drop or two of food colouring or cocoa powder added. A few sprinkles on top - beautiful!
I've also made rock cakes: 100g marg rubbed in with 200g flour (like making breadcrumbs) then just add all the other ingredients, 75g sugar, 200g sultanas/raisins and 1 egg. Roll them into balls, pop em on a baking tray and stick em in the oven! And viola...

And I think they all went down pretty well too...
