Peek at Pinterest: Klimt

Hours could be spend collecting images and scrolling the long lengths of the Pinterest boards. Sometimes I seem, inadvertently, to collect images one after the other from different sources with such similar colourings, or I used it to find precedents for projects at work and at home. So I'm starting a series on this here blog called Peek at Pinterest to look back on the pictures I've collected.

The Sunday before last I went with Ben and Rehan to the National Gallery's Facing the Modern: Portrait of Vienna 1900 exhibition. Ever since I went to Vienna a couple of years back and saw some original works of Klimt I have been a massive fan. My particular favourites are Portrait of Fritza Riedler (above middle) and the Water Serpents I. The aspect of this works I love are the delicate feminine portraits teamed with abstract and geometric backdrops sometimes flecked with gold - such a contrast!

Little Huts

Over the Christmas break I was blogging about everything and anything, except architecture. I just didn't want to be doing it. Since getting back up to Manchester I have got back in the zone and reinspired! My Architecture and Housing boards on Pinterest are busier than ever, and as a collaborative group our unit is sharing ideas and precedents we've seen. Although they look like little houses this is the Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid by langarita-navarro arquitectos, who are speaking this week in London at the ar+d Emerging Architecture Lecture Series. In an old warehouse, pavilions contain workspaces, recording studios, conference areas and all are temporarial constructed so they can be moved away and reused. I love the use of materials and the green landscape within - inspired!!

Where?

I've (almost) finished decorating my room! A few posts back I was explaining my colour choices - I've gone for a pale yellow, well 'Orchid White' - and on Pinterest I've been constantly pinning my interior inspiration. What to put up on the wall above my bed has been the most recent quandary, but I'm pretty stuck on a map. I love maps. My great aunt Joan used to go on a lot of walking holidays so we have inherited her collection of maps. The front covers, let alone the maps themselves, are beautiful. After a good old rummage I have found the one for me. It's has basically fallen apart from much use, but it's of my home county, Surrey, and it will soon have pride of place on my wall.

Lucy Rose

After seeing recommendation on my news feed, I had a listen to the music of Lucy Rose. She has a great voice; soft like Laura Marling, another of my favourites. Check out her music here and videos here.

I've also popped this image onto my Style pinboard on Pinterest. I resisted to join so far, but it's just such a great idea and will be so helpful to group together ideas and inspiration when I start back studying architecture in a few weeks!
